Being a Mentor

What does a mentoring relationship involve?

You'll meet with your mentee for 1 -2 hours a week for up to twelve weeks at a selected IT centre.

Your mentee might wish to achieve any number of goals such as gaining easier access to online services, making the most of new technology to search for the best job opportunities, setting up an email account or to learning how to use the software that will enable them to chat for free to friends and relatives online.

By sharing your knowledge and skills, you'll help your mentee to feel more at home with modern technology and give them the confidence to use the Internet in a way that's useful to them.

What's in it for me?

Mentoring doesn't take much time and the rewards are huge. You'll receive mentor training and gain valuable experience that will impress employers. Mentoring is a chance to improve your communication skills and gain confidence. What training and support will I receive?

Digitall provides training and support to mentors and mentees throughout the course of the mentoring relationship. At the initial one-day training session, you will learn what is expected of you and, more importantly, what is not expected of you. The training will also help you to structure your meetings with your mentee.

How will mentors and mentees be matched?

Digitall has developed a careful system to match mentors and mentees, based on a number of key criteria. We take into account factors such as common interests, gender and availability.

We understand that some matches just don't work, so don't worry we will be here to support you if you're match isn't what you expected. The most important thing in ensuring a successful mentoring match is to make sure that both parties are happy from the outset.
